People Always Ask Me the Same Question...

"Yoli... what do you do to your skin?"

I honestly take that as one of the nicest compliments anyone can give me.

I'll be 58 years old next month, and people are often surprised when I tell them my age. While I'd love to pretend I discovered some secret fountain of youth hidden somewhere on San Antonio's West Side, the truth is much less exciting...

Consistency.

I'm fortunate to own a salon where I can receive professional treatments like microneedling, chemical peels, and facials, and I want to be very clear:

Nothing replaces professional treatments performed by a trained aesthetician.

Those services create changes that simply can't be duplicated at home.

But here's what I've learned after more than a decade as an aesthetician:

The people who get the best long-term results aren't just the ones who come into the salon... they're the ones who take care of their skin every single day between appointments.

Think about your hair.

Getting beautiful highlights once every six months isn't enough if you're washing with harsh shampoo and never conditioning.

Skin works the same way.

Professional treatments build the foundation.

Daily maintenance protects the investment.

This routine has become my nightly ritual—not because I think everyone has to copy it exactly, but because it's what has worked well for me.

If your routine looks different, that's perfectly okay. These are simply the products and steps I've come to enjoy using.

Step 1: Clean Skin is Happy Skin

Product I Use

Prequel Gleanser Moisturizing Glycerin Cleanser

Every good skincare routine starts with a clean canvas.

Throughout the day our skin collects:

  • Makeup

  • Sunscreen

  • Oil

  • Sweat

  • Dirt

  • Pollution

Removing all of that before bed allows the products that follow to actually reach your skin instead of sitting on top of yesterday's makeup.

One reason I enjoy this cleanser is that it leaves my skin feeling clean without feeling stripped or overly dry. A cleanser that feels comfortable after rinsing is something I personally look for because I know I'll be using it every evening.

I gently massage it into damp skin for about a minute before rinsing with lukewarm water.

No rushing.

This is where my skincare routine begins—and honestly, it's where I start relaxing after a long day at the salon.

Step 2: A Little Controlled Stress Can Be a Good Thing

Using a derma roller to exfoliate skin

Product I Use

The Beard Club Titanium Derma Roller

This is probably the step people ask me about the most.

A derma roller uses hundreds of tiny, fine needles that create microscopic channels in the outermost layer of the skin.

The idea behind treatments like professional microneedling is that controlled micro-injuries encourage your skin's natural repair processes. Professional treatments are significantly deeper and should only be performed by trained providers.

My at-home roller is not a replacement for professional microneedling, but I personally enjoy incorporating it into my routine as directed by the manufacturer.

It's one of those moments where you're reminding your skin:

"Wake up... let's keep working."

As with any skincare tool, cleanliness is extremely important.

I always sanitize the roller before and after use and never use it on irritated, broken, or infected skin.

Step 3: Time to Renew

Product I Use

Prequel Multi Acid Milk Peel

This is where people sometimes get nervous.

Yes...

You'll probably feel it.

This peel contains exfoliating acids that are designed to help remove dull surface skin cells. Many people describe experiencing a temporary tingling sensation when using acid exfoliants according to the product directions.

I actually expect a little tingling because I know the product is formulated to exfoliate.

For me, it's become part of the routine.

Exfoliation is important because our skin is constantly renewing itself.

As we age, that renewal process naturally slows down.

Gentle chemical exfoliation can help improve the appearance of skin texture and leave the complexion looking brighter and smoother over time.

The key word is...

Gentle.

More is not better.

Always follow the manufacturer's directions regarding frequency and application time.

Step 4: My Favorite Part of the Evening

Product I Use

CurrentBody Skin LED Light Therapy Mask: Series 2

If you've ever seen me wearing this mask, you've probably laughed.

I'll admit...

It looks like something from a science-fiction movie.

But it's become one of my favorite ways to end the evening.

After everything else is finished, I simply relax with my LED mask for at least 10 minutes.

Sometimes I watch television.

Sometimes I answer emails.

Sometimes I just sit quietly.

It's become less about skincare and more about slowing down before bed.

Many people enjoy incorporating LED light devices into their skincare routines because they're convenient to use at home and fit easily into a nightly self-care ritual.

Why Consistency Beats Perfection

One facial won't change your skin forever.

One expensive cream won't either.

The little things...

The nightly routine...

The decision to take ten or fifteen minutes for yourself...

That's where the magic happens.

I don't think beautiful skin comes from chasing perfection.

I think it comes from treating your skin kindly every single day.

Some nights I'm tired.

Some nights I don't feel like doing the routine.

But I remind myself that my future skin will appreciate today's effort.

Professional Treatments Still Matter

As much as I love my home routine, I never want people to think they're choosing between professional treatments and home care.

The best results often come from combining the two.

Professional treatments such as:

  • Microneedling

  • Chemical peels

  • Customized facials

  • Dermaplaning

  • Medical-grade skincare recommendations

...can complement a consistent home routine when performed by trained professionals.

Think of it this way:

Your professional treatments are the major renovations.

Your nightly skincare routine is the daily maintenance that helps preserve those results.

Final Thoughts

People often ask me how I've managed to keep my skin looking the way it does.

Honestly...

It's not one miracle product.

It's not one treatment.

It's not luck.

It's simply years of trying to take care of my skin, learning what works for me, and staying consistent.

Will these exact products be the perfect fit for everyone?

Probably not.

But if this routine encourages someone to start taking a little more time for themselves every evening, then I'm happy to share what has worked for me.

Because beautiful skin isn't really about looking younger.

It's about feeling confident in the skin you're in.

See you at the salon.
